Endometriosis and you!

One in ten women are said to suffer from endometriosis.  I believe that figure is under reported and under diagnosed and the actual number is so much higher.  I find in my clinic that many women feel extremely isolated and misunderstood as they seek a diagnosis and treatment.

What we do know about endometriosis

Endometriosis is tissue that is like the lining of the womb that grows in other areas of the body including the ovaries, fallopian tubes and cavities around that area and in some severe cases you can have extensive scar tissue in and around your bladder, bowel and can end up anywhere within your body.  Symptoms can include pelvis pain, severe period pain and pain during and after sexual intercourse.

My own journey with endometriosis has been a long one.  I was diagnosed at the age of twenty-six and it led me on a pathway to support others with complementary and alternative therapy.  This is not to replace allopathic medicine, but to work alongside with a holistic therapeutic approach.

Hummingbird Holistics at The Apothecary Kitchen and how we may help you

I conduct a treatment consultation, and a therapeutic plan will be put in place using essential oils and reflexology, this self-help two steps plan can be added as an extra or used independently.  I will recommend a treatment solution that will include magnesium salt with one of our five body systems, you choose the one that most aligns with you.  I use magnesium as it’s a powerhouse to help relieve tension and cramps so aids relaxation.

Step one

Healing salt bath/foot bath

Recipe

One cup of magnesium salt

Three drops of Rose Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens var. roseum)

Three drops Clary Sage essential oil (Salvia sclarea)

One drop Hyssopp essential oil (Hyssopus officinalis)

Method

Add the essential oils to the cup of salt add the mix to running warm water and mix to dissolve.  I recommend conducting this bathing experience every day for at least one cycle as the magnesium is a powerful pain reliever and the essential oils help balance hormones.  If you are low on magnesium, it can take a while to build this up and at first you may notice a slight tingling if your body is low on magnesium so keep it up.

Properties

Rose Geranium can help to regulate the hormones. It is therefore useful for many female related conditions such as PMS/PMT, (Premenstrual syndrome/Premenstrual tension) and for helping calm pain and inflammation.

Clary Sage oil can be helpful with female related problems such as PMS/PMT and painful periods.  It is a powerful muscle relaxant which can help with muscle pain, tension and spasm.

Hyssop benefits the menstrual cycle and can help with monthly water retention.

Step two

Womb soothing and healing abdominal massage.

Recipe

100ml dark bottle (blue or amber work well)

10ml Castor Oil (Ricinus Communis)

90ml Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Dulcis)

Fifteen drops of Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)

Ten drops of Bergamot essential oil (Citrus bergamia)

Five drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus limonum)

Method

Mix essential oils with the two carrier oils (castor and sweet almond) into your bottle and you now have your blend.  Place a five pence piece size of the blend on the palm of your hand.  Rub your hands together and place both hands on your abdomen and rub the oils in a clockwise direction to help soothe pain and discomfort.   I recommend conducting this massage alongside the salt bath for a whole cycle.  If you would like further support with this Jane teaches one-to-one and group workshops in abdominal massage to deepen the treatment.

Properties

Sweet Almond Oil has excellent soothing properties. It is rich in minerals, vitamins, proteins and essential fatty acids, has revitalising and nourishing properties.

Castor Oil is renowned for its high levels of Ricinoleic Acid (Omega 9 fatty acid). It also has analgesic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

Lavender has analgesic properties which can be helpful for a variety of aches and pains including cramping and spasms related to the menstrual cycle. It helps to soothe, calm and balance emotions.

Bergamot's antidepressant qualities are excellent for stress, tension and low mood.

Lemon has detoxifying properties that make it useful in lymphatic drainage massage and it can also be helpful for clarity of mind.
