18th October 2023 World Menopause Day
Complementary therapies can completely support women in all phases of their lives – perimenopause – during menopause and post -menopause, so how may we help you? Over the next few weeks, we will have hints and tips to help you or a loved on navigate this life experience with choices and knowledge to support a holistic integrated approach to menopause in celebration of world menopause day on the 18th October 2023.
Menopause is a natural transitional phase in a woman’s life and is diagnosed when a woman has not had a period for at least 12 months and not using hormonal contraception.
Let’s look at the facts!
The Average Age in the UK: 51 years
Range: 35-51 years
Under 35 Years: Premature Ovarian Failure
The Conventional Medical Explanation: Levels of biologically produced oestrogen drop to a lower level due to declining ovarian function.
The Symptoms & Health Risks Associated with Menopause over a Long-term Risk May Include: Heart disease, Osteoporosis, Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, Depression and Dementia (vascular effect attributed to the oestrogen hormone effect on circulation)
There has also been a significant correlation of menopausal symptoms and long Covid. The study was published in Winter 2021 issue of FHT’S International Therapist magazine. It supports the benefits of complementary therapy treatments and self-care techniques such as the Resilience workshops that we offer: breathing exercises, self-massage, self-reflexology, advice on essential oils and aroma sticks and mediation, mindfulness, and visualisation. It stated that this measure helped with menopausal symptoms on a mental, emotional, and physical aspect.
The menopause is an experience that will be very individual to every woman and may impact all areas of her life. I aim to bring an understanding on why and how we need to know more about the menopause and how we might be able to dramatically improve quality of life and the symptoms they might be suffering. I will be specifically looking at Complementary Therapies and the knowledge and expertise I have acquired as a woman’s health therapist, and how my own lifestyle changes dramatically improved my quality of life as I navigated my own journey through menopause.
Stay tuned as we bring a holistic, integrated approach to the ‘autumnal phase’ as it is sometimes referred to. Evidence based benefits and the principles of restoring balance through complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications.
